It is any one of 11 slow-growing varieties of fleshy-rooted perennials belonging to the Panax genus of the family Araliaceae.Ginseng is found in North America and East Asia (mostly Korea, Northeast China, Bhutan, and Eastern Siberia), usually in cold climates.Panax Vietnams, discovered in Vietnam, is the well-known ginseng plant in the far south.Among the types of ginseng, Asian or Korean ginseng, scientifically known as Panax ginseng, and American ginseng, scientifically known as Panax quinquefolius, studies have shown that the benefits of each differ from the other.Siberian ginseng (stinging ginseng) is of the same family, but of a different sex, like real ginseng. Like ginseng, it is considered a genetically adapted plant, the active compounds in it are the non-unisexual alutherosides. Instead of fleshy roots, Siberian ginseng has woody roots.
